THE DCU DIFFERENCE

Your child deserves the best!
We dedicate countless hours of learning and accreditations to ensure that your child gets the best opportunity to learn and grow.

Dyslexia Center of Utah (a 501(c)(3) nonprofit) is dedicated to meeting the educational needs of children diagnosed with a primary language processing disorder, and supporting the constituencies that serve them. Dyslexia Center of Utah seeks for a culturally, ethically, and economically diverse population and is an active participant in both the Utah and international branch of the International Dyslexia Association. We strive to help children struggling with reading, writing and spelling.

To fullfill its mission, DCU offers an academic program designed to serve students with a language learning disability such as dyslexia who have average to superior intelligence, and no primary emotional problems. DCU fosters self-confidence and a willingness to take reponsibility for being active learners. Finally, DCU prepares students to enter other academic settings and to advocate for themselves in a life of learning.

Shelley Hatch SLT (Structured Literacy Teacher) is the founder and Executive Director of Dyslexia Center of Utah, a nonprofit organization she created 25 years ago to help children whose reading and comprehension skills are compromised by dyslexia and related learning disorders. Shelley is the Vice President of the Learning Disabilities Association of Utah a widely recognized advocate for educational reform.

'DCU has helped my daughter to read. The difference from her one year ago, to today, is phenomenal. Last year, she hated reading and really struggled with self-esteem. Since receiving services from DCU, she is more confident and enjoys reading. I will actually see her pick up a book to read for enjoyment, not just for a school assignment. We are grateful for the curriculum and tutors at DCU.

‘Did you know that dyslexia is highly hereditary?

I have 2 children who have been receiving help from the Dyslexia Center of Utah.

I am so grateful for the service that this business provides!   My spouse has severe dyslexia and 2 of my 3 children have inherited it.

My son, who is 14, has severe dyslexia.  He is in 8th grade and reads at a 3rd grade level.  For him to succeed, he desperately needs a quality, research based program that can give him the skills to succeed. I am a teacher and I see the quality of this program.

I know that the Dyslexia Center of Utah is research-based and the tutors we have had have been so amazing.  They are skilled at tutoring and are very professional.  I also have a child who is in 3rd grade.  Her dyslexia isn’t as severe but she struggles just to keep up.

My kids are making such amazing gains in their reading skills and self-esteem.  Dyslexia isn’t just about "not being able to read", it is also about the embarrassment at school when they aren’t keeping up with their peers.  Dyslexics are very bright and can start to feel “dumb” as they see themselves falling behind.  The Dyslexia Center is helping my kids feel confident and proud of their hard work and their improvement.  As a mom, all I want is for my kids to succeed, and be happy. The Dyslexia Center of Utah is helping them attain those dreams, I couldn’t be more grateful.’

Hi Shelley! I really wanted you to know that Adi has done so wonderful in school! She got A’s in math, English and honors biology. Every time I see her report card I think of you and how eternally grateful I am and I know Adi is too that you were an angel in her life. You helped her so much with her education but more with her self confidence as well. I just need to tell you thank you one more time! Thank you for your kind heart and your love you showed my daughter. She is succeeding far beyond what I expected and her success started the day we found you. You change lives with your sweet soul and huge heart. Thank you!!
